Ashley's work and profile was featured in the Yellow International Art Exhibition catalogue presented by the M.A.D.S Art Gallery in Milan, Italy.
"The entire artistic repertoire by Ashley Alexandra, a contemporary Canadian artist, is wrapped in evanescent ripples, where the subjects lose all form, abandoning themselves to immateriality. The link with nature is immediately apparent in her artistic research. Her paintings are like landscapes shrouded in mist, where the light filters softly, touching the surfaces, unable to capture the details. What most characterizes and distinguishes Ashley Alexandra’s style is the use of colour, not only in its dark tones, but also in the choice of a more material density. Indeed, the surfaces of her paintings are inconsistent, and raw, rich in heterogenous details. In the work entitled ‘Phoenix Rising’, which was presented at M.A.D.S. Art Gallery on the occasion of the YELLOW exhibition, the artist shows us an extremely personal vision of the myth of the phoenix. The phoenix is a legendary bird found in many myths that, after death, rises from its own ashes. Universally known as a symbol of rebirth and change, of strength and resistance, it becomes an opportunity for the artist to confront herself, taking the viewer on a journey to an inner landscape. A gradation of colours ranging from blue to green, white and yellow, tells the rebirth in the form of light. In the centre of the painting, the colour thickens, hinting at the flight of this powerful birth that makes its way through the darkness. The artist wants to speak to us of an introspective path, of spiritual renewal, offering the viewer a vision of hope for a better future.” – Francesca Brunello, Art Curator
